It is a form of pest control that provides environmental and economic benefits for the company. It consists of studying the insect population dynamics in the cane fields to know which of these species can cause damages to the cane field.
Such monitoring leads to rationalization of insecticides application, in other words, only insects that harm the crops are eliminated. Thus, we reduce the use of pesticides and preserve species that cause no damages to the cane.
Among the 15 species of termites found in the region, only three can cause damages to sugarcane and soybean crops. Thus, only in the territorial area where they occur, insecticides are used, reducing significantly the use of reagent, protecting colonies of insects, especially pollinators like bees.
We have been carrying out this type of pest control since 1992 in partnership with the Agronomy School of the Federal University of Goiás. With that practice we won the CREA-GO Environment Award.
